From Rocket City to Our Thriving Community
In 1963, amidst the space race's excitement, an ambitious project named Rocket City was born in Orange County. It was the brainchild of the All-State Development Corporation, envisioned to be a massive city even larger than Orlando. Situated between Orlando and Cape Canaveral, Rocket City aimed to tap into the rapid growth of the "Golden Triangle" area. It was designed meticulously to attract aerospace and technology industry employees and businesses, promising a future-focused city buzzing with innovation.
However, this dream soon faced stark realities. By 1965, All-State Development Corporation crumbled under bankruptcy, marred by fraud investigations. The people who invested in Rocket City were left in uncertainty about their properties. This period marked a significant setback, with unfulfilled promises and halted developments casting a shadow over the project.
Banker's Life and Casualty Insurance, the primary creditor of All-State, inherited Rocket City. They rebranded it as Cape Orlando Estates in an attempt to salvage the project. By 1970, Banker's Life had managed to develop only part of the original plan. Legal disputes and complications plagued the area, delaying further development and leaving many property owners waiting for resolution.
Emerging from the remnants of Rocket City and Cape Orlando Estates, our community slowly transformed into Wedgefield. Over the years, this area has evolved from a symbol of unfulfilled dreams into a vibrant, thriving community. It now boasts a variety of homes, local businesses, schools, and recreational areas, weaving together its unique past with a promising future.
Today, Wedgefield stands proud, a testament to resilience and community spirit. It has grown into a welcoming suburb where history and quiet, easy living blend seamlessly. Wedgefield is a place where we remember our unique past while looking forward to a bright future together.
